Almost Grown, Still Holding On | A Senior Session in the Golden Foothills
We had a gray, heavy sky that afternoon, the kind that makes some people want to reschedule, but this senior looked at it and shrugged. She put on a beautiful dress with little puffed sleeves, shook out her hair, and walked into a hillside of tall golden grass like she had been waiting all year to do exactly that.
She almost did not book it. I am so glad she did.
When Allison first reached out about documenting her third pregnancy, there was something in the way she talked about it that stuck with me. She had two babies before this one and had not documented either pregnancy with a session. This time she wanted to do things differently. She wanted to slow down and actually hold onto this season because she knows how quickly it passes. And I am so glad she did. I want to tell you about what we created together, because I think her story might sound a little familiar to some of you.
They Were Just Babies | Why Every Season of Childhood is Worth Documenting
I dropped my three kids off at school last week and sat in the car for a minute longer than I needed to. I do not know if it was the new backpacks, or the way my youngest walked through those doors without looking back, or just the particular quality of that morning light, but something about it hit me differently this year. I kept thinking about how fast it is all moving. How the babies I brought home from the hospital are now packing their own lunches and losing their teeth and having opinions about their outfits.
Capturing every moment, from the Newborn Days to Watching a Family becoming
Photographing families as they grow, here in El Dorado Hills and throughout the Sacramento area, has taught me that time doesn’t slow down. But memory can be held. Gently. Intentionally. With care.
And if I’m lucky enough to keep walking alongside your family as your story unfolds, I promise to keep honoring it just as it is. Unposed. Unrushed. Full of heart.
