Five Sessions, One Family, and the Kind of Love That Stays

There are clients who book a session with you. And then there are the ones who become part of your story.
The Saavedra family is the second kind.
This past summer I had the privilege of photographing them for the fifth time…
…and I want to sit with that for a moment because it genuinely means so much to me. Five sessions. Five different chapters of this family's life that I have been trusted to document. That is not something I take lightly, not even for a single sweet moment.
What It Means to Grow With a Family Over the Years
When I think back to our first session together, and then look at where this family is now, I am honestly a little overwhelmed. The kids just keep growing, just like the love they share. And every single time I am with them, there is this feeling in the room that has never changed. This warmth. This ease with each other. This quiet, steady love that just radiates from all of them.
That is rare. And I notice it every time.
When you start as a photographer, this is always the goal, to be able to watch a family move and grow through time. Not just capturing one moment but being invited back again and again to document the next chapter and the one after that. It is one of the greatest privileges of my work, and the Saavedra family has given me that gift more than almost anyone else I have photographed.
I do not think I will ever stop being grateful for clients like them.
This Session
We met at Folsom Lake as the sun was beginning its descent, and the sky did something that evening that I honestly could not have planned if I tried. What started as bluebird skies, faded into that warm golden light spilling over the water, the soft pinks and lavenders moving across the clouds, and this beautiful family of seven standing together in the middle of all of it.
All five kids showed up with so much personality and energy, and yet the moment we started shooting everything just settled into this beautiful rhythm. That is the Saavedra way. They bring a joy to every session that is completely their own, and it fills up the whole space around them.
What moves me most about photographing this family is watching the parents. The way they support each other. The way they show up for their children, individually and all together. The way love in this family does not feel like something they perform for the camera but something they simply are, in every ordinary and extraordinary moment.
I left that evening feeling full in the way that only certain sessions can make you feel. Grateful for the light, grateful for the lake, and deeply grateful for the reminder that some of the most beautiful things in this life are the families who choose to love each other well every single day.
I truly believe this family has been blessed, and I feel blessed to be the one they keep calling back.
