Before Mina’s arrival, her parents experienced a loss that forever changed them. The grief of losing a baby is something no one can ever truly prepare for, and yet, through that darkness, they held onto each other and their faith. When they reached out to me for their maternity session in El Dorado Hills, there was such a quiet strength about them. You could feel the mix of anticipation and vulnerability in every glance and touch.
There’s something incredibly powerful about photographing parents who have walked through loss. Every maternity image carried a story. A reminder that love persists, even in the most fragile moments. As we captured the soft glow of evening light and the gentle curve of her belly, it was clear that this baby was already deeply loved.
When Rainbows follow the storm
Then, a few weeks later, I had the honor of welcoming them again, this time for their newborn session. Sweet Mina was perfect in every way, her tiny fingers curled delicately around her parents’ hands. You could see the peace in their eyes, the way gratitude replaced fear, and how love seemed to fill every corner of the room.
Mina is what we call a rainbow baby, a symbol of light after a storm. Watching her parents hold her, I was reminded of why I do what I do. Photography gives us a way to preserve more than just a moment…it allows us to tell the story of resilience, love, and hope.
