4 Reasons for Printing Your Professional Photos

How many times have you gotten beautiful photos with your family, newborn, or significant other, and unintentionally let them just sit on your phone? I think we are all guilty of this, especially in today’s busy, tech-filled days. When you get the gallery back, you post to Instagram, update your Facebook, and call it a day. But there are so many ways to print out and enjoy the physical version of your visual memories that go beyond just posting online. I have a belief that the photography experience doesn’t end when you receive your gallery but instead, it continues every day when you get to look at the sweet moments that you’ve shared with your family. Let’s go through more reasons why printing your professional photos.

You invested in professional photography

You already invested the time and money into getting these photos done. As a photographer, I’ll be the first to admit, photography isn’t necessarily cheap. By all measures, it's definitely worth it. But, if you’re going to put the money out anyways, you might as well make the most of it. Get every little look, glance, and stare out of those precious memories by getting to look at them every day.

Honesty Hour: How many photos do you have on your phone? As a mom (and photographer) myself, I safely have thousands. Okay, now, how many times do you look back at all of them? This is where I’m guilty. Life gets busy and sometimes we just don’t have time to scroll all the way back through all our photos to find those really good ones from that one day. This problem does not exist when you’re printing your professional photos! Instead of scrolling forever in your camera roll to find your favorites, you can wake up and walk down the hall to be reminded of the beautiful love your family shares.

Printing Your Professional Photos Makes It An Experience

Printed photos versus digital ones allow you to experience the photos in a tangible way. It invigorates more senses. You get to hold the photograph, feel the paper, smell the ink, and maybe the years that come with it. It enlightens your brain and triggers the memories from that day. You could hear the laughter of your children playing or the smell of the flowers from their favorite park that you always went to. The way tangible photos recreate a time in your life or the lives of your family that you never wanted to end is something you just cannot get from looking at digital photos on your phone.

This is the experience that I am so touched to be a part of creating for my families. When you get your photos done, it's more than just a photo session, and gallery delivered. It's a lifetime of memories documented for years to come. It's moments that you are eternally grateful for being saved for you to relive as your family grows. That is why I love what I do.

Digital Photos Don’t Last Forever

As much as we want to feel safe leaving our photos “uploaded” or “on the cloud”, it's not actually the safest place for them. We’ve seen many times how little control we have over the different platforms we use. Instagram will delete your posts inexplicably. Facebook will be down for an hour or 10. How many times have you had a phone crack that makes you lose all your photos? Anyone else experience a computer crash at the worst possible time? You never can know what will happen when you put your photos in the hands of technology. This is why I always recommend putting your beloved photos and files on an external hard drive. This acts as a backup, should anything like this happen.

Even then though, the best way to protect your files and keep them in their best shape is by printing your professional photos. This allows you to have full control over them and keep them safe without worrying about any crash or glitch that erases it all.

Printing Professional Photos Helps Your Family Bond

Of course, it's always fun to pull out the photo album when family visits or for bigger gatherings. But, I’d argue that the sweetest parts about printing your professional photos are all the little moments in between. When you’re sitting on the couch as a family, your kids point themselves out in a family photo. Or when you can tell those treasured family stories based on the photos hanging on the wall around the dinner table. It's when those lively memories are up for display and always there to remind you of the bond your family shares. I love the quote by Kristine Sweeting, “Handing a photo of your children to them makes them feel like they belong, are confident, important, and are loved.” because it could not be more true.

When kids grow up hearing the stories of their ancestors, they are given the tools to have confidence in themselves in the real world. They see the life that happened before them and contributed to making them who they are. That's so powerful when you're just learning about yourself and your place in the world. Have you ever found a photo of your grandparents when they were young and asked someone in your family about the story of how they met? Those conversations are so important (and so fun!) Give your children that same opportunity to inquire and learn about their own past. It helps them grow as a person and your family grow stronger.
