Capturing Love that Lasts: The Importance of a Couple Photoshoot

Marriage is a beautiful thing. It is a commitment to love and cherish your partner for the rest of your life. However, as time passes, the excitement of the wedding day fades away and daily routines take over. Amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it is easy to forget the spark that brought two people together in the first place. This is where I believe a couple photoshoot is essential.

I have been capturing the love between families and mothers for many years. Whether it’s capturing the glow of a new mom and her baby, or the radiating laughter amongst a family, there is something so beautiful about freezing a moment in time and saving it forever. Both of these types of sessions are essential- however, I believe couple photos are just as important but are often overlooked.

Save a memory forever.

Life often feels like it just flashes before our eyes right? I know that’s not just me. We make so many memories with each other just in daily life. Photographs are a perfect way to preserve these memories. Getting your photos taken as a couple is not only a way to capture your love right now, but it also serves as a reminder of how far you've come in your relationship. It's a chance to reflect on the beginning of your relationship, the wedding day, and all the moments in between. These memories are priceless and will only grow more valuable as time passes.

Celebrate your love

Whether you’re newly married or have been together for decades, it's important to document your love. You have been through so much as a couple. You have chosen each other and found the person to spend your life with. That is a meaningful thing and deserves to be celebrated.  Use your couple photoshoot to step away from the hustle and bustle of your daily lives and step into the moment with each other. This time is dedicated to you appreciating the love you share and embracing all the reasons you love each other.

A couple photoshoot is a gift to your family

Have you ever sat and looked through old family photos? I love when I get to go through an old box with a bunch of old pictures. Getting to hear stories about my grandparents meeting and falling in love is one of my favorite things. Learning about the childhood that my parents had is so enlightening. It's so special to know the history of your family and where you come from. Your love and the relationship you're building with your significant other is going to be a part of your family’s story. The life you build together is a story that will be passed down through generations. How amazing is that?

Do your kids, grandkids, and beyond a favor by documenting your love story. Show them the love that started it all. Years down the road, when sharing stories from today, you’ll be able to show these visual representations of exactly what your relationship was like 20, 40, 60 years ago.

Create art for your home

You probably have photos up of the kids’ school photos or your family photos from last Christmas, but have you ever thought of displaying ones of just you and your partner? After all, your relationship exists within and separate from the family right? Imagine getting to show your kids the love their parents have for each other through photos of you in your relationship. Yes, please! I know my kids love that. You get a constant reminder throughout your day of the love that flows through your relationship and family. A couple photoshoot allows for those little moments that make you smile in your everyday routine.

Making the most of your couples session

For many people, being the center of attention in front of the camera can be scary. I get it. But let’s redirect your mindset on that. This isn’t a photoshoot where you have to pose perfectly and kiss on command. I don’t want my couples feeling forced or unnatural during a couple photoshoot. My goal is to portray your love in its most natural form. That means all you need to do is be present with your partner and leave the rest to me. I’ll focus on capturing those little moments in between when you are your most true self. So, how else can we make this experience fun? Here are some more tips for making the most of your couple photoshoot.

Choose a special spot for your couple photoshoot

Do you have a place that means a lot to your relationship? Maybe it's where you met, or where you/they proposed, or where you first said, “I love you”. Choosing a spot that brings back those memories and giddy feelings you get is a great start to getting excited about your photoshoot and comfortable in front of the camera.

Dress to impress

Make it fun! You want to look and feel your best so think of this as a little date night for the two of you. Coordinating your outfits together always looks great in photos. I always offer my clients professional styling help through a program that delivers perfectly complimenting outfits right to your door. Most importantly, avoid big patterns, logos, or matching exactly. We always want to go for a timeless look.

Trust the Process

If you're feeling the nerves, don’t be afraid to reach out! Sometimes, having an honest conversation with your photographer is all it takes. I am more than happy to plan out the session together so you know exactly what to expect. The more comfortable and like yourself you feel during the session, the more natural and breathtaking the photos will come out. Remember, this session is meant to celebrate and capture the essence of your relationship. So, relax, be yourself and your love will show through perfectly.

Booking your couple photoshoot

Doing a couple photoshoot is not just a way to capture memories; it's an opportunity to celebrate your love, strengthen your relationship, and keep the romance alive. While family photos are definitely necessary, I encourage you to prioritize capturing your relationship on its own too. You’ll be creating lovely memories for you and your partner and a meaningful gift for generations to come. Click here to learn more.
