How to Get the Best Fall Family Photos

As the leaves begin to transition to their vibrant autumn hues and the crisp air carries a hint of cozy magic, there's something truly enchanting about capturing the love of your family during this beautiful season. Fall offers a perfect backdrop for family photos that radiate warmth, love, and togetherness. If you're considering booking a photoshoot with a professional photographer to capture these cherished moments, we've got you covered with some heartfelt tips to ensure that your session is easy, enjoyable, and brimming with joy.

Make your fall family photos fun!

One of the things about the fall season is that the sun sets earlier, which means you can capture photos during the golden hour. Golden Hour makes for the dreamiest photos. Fall season calls for beautiful photos at any point, but golden hour is definitely what will bring the photos to life.

Make a day of it! Plan to stop for apple cider before your photo session. Go to the pumpkin patch first and have everyone choose their favorite pumpkin to bring into the photos! What better way to warm everyone up and be in the best mood fo rhte photos than to have a family outing beforehand. This photo session is meant to be fun and memorable, so don’t be afraid to play into the fall spirit all the way. What better

Let your story shine through

One of the things I love about the photos I capture with my clients is how genuine they look and feel. I like to steer away from poses and planned looks. When you are playing with the kids or taking in the moment with your significant other- that’s when I'm clicking. Those sweet in-between moments are what make up the love in your family. That's what I want to be shining a light on throughout our session.

This means it's okay to let the kids be. It's okay if it's messy or feels all over the place or isnt perfect. This is the time and place to embrace all the imperfections of your family. Let go of the expectations and have fun with your kids. Laugh with your person. Allow yourself to really enjoy the moment. Those genuine interactions make for the best photos that make you smile years and years down the road.

Fall Family Photos document your family

Contrary to popular belief, your family photos are more than just a background for your yearly holiday photos. Yes, they work out perfectly for those too- but your photos are there to document every milestone of your family’s life. If you’re like me, you have thousands of photos on your phone of little moments throughout the day. You’re documenting the mini-milestones of your family. You probably already look back through those photos and reminisce on moments that have passed. That's what these photos are. So while you can absolutely use them for holiday cards, (and i hope you do!) your future self will thank you for saving these memories when you can look back and relive seasons of life with your family.

Book Your Fall Family Photos

Fall Photos are some of my favorite sessions because it's not hard to make a photo look absolutely stunning. The light behind the family, the crisp air that breezes through and reminds us that the holidays are near and the year is coming to an end. The families are always so happy and excited. It must be something in the air. So, these spots usually fill up pretty quickly. If you want to save your spot, it's never too early to book your own Fall family photo session!
