In-Home Life style Newborn Photography in Folsom/El Dorado Hills /Sacramento area

Expecting a newborn is a joyful anticipation of one of life’s most beautiful events no matter it is your first one, the second, or the fifth one to come. Each time the journey comes with many exciting expectations entering this new chapter starting with photo documenting your bundle of joy.

Often parents schedule a newborn photo session during the second or early third trimester of the pregnancy to get on the photographer’s calendar. Weeks 1 through 8 after birth are optimal for capturing the essence of teeny-tiny babies. Pre-week 6 can be even better as baby will be sleeping mostly during the day. Theoretically speaking it is never too late to schedule a professional photography session for older infants and young toddlers. Realistically, though, every stage of a baby’s life brings different considerations into the mix.

Rather than looking at your newborn or infant photo session from a “how late is too late…?” angle, it’s best to view prospective sessions through the lens of “what does each week-or month-bring to the experience?”

What are some things you can expect during your newborn photo session?

Day Of The Session:
When I arrive, I will walk around your home and scout out the best lit areas for family shots. I often use the couch, master bedroom, and nursery for photos. I understand what it’s like to have a newborn. Please don’t feel like you have to clean the house before I arrive. We can easily clean up an area that we want to use for photos while I’m there.

Your Baby:
Your newborn is perfect just the way he or she is. I don't try to make babies sleep or place them in unnatural poses. I suggest you have your newborn in a simple onesie that is form-fitting with no graphics or words. This usually means that you will need a newborn sized onesie. I will likely take it off and get some nude or near nude newborn photos as well. Also, please gather a few favorite swaddle blankets for your baby to be wrapped in. I will also bring a few.

I recommend feeding your little one as much as he or she wants about 15 minutes prior to my arrival. Newborn sessions can take some time, that is okay. I do not do major posing or have any expectation on how the baby should behave (alert or asleep). We let the baby guide the session. What is important is that we capture this beautiful time in your life.

Mom and Dad:
You are going to be thrilled and exhausted. You will likely be experiencing the highest highs and perhaps some of the lowest lows. Having a new baby is hard and wonderful all at the same time. I am a mother of two young children myself and empathize with what you are going through. My job is not to make this time in your life look perfect; my job is to show you just how beautiful it is. I want you to be relaxed and at ease while I am photographing your family. You don't need to be anything but yourself.

Dress like yourself:
Wear something you feel awesome and beautiful in. Avoid big patterns, logos, or bright colors. Aim for earthy tones, natural fabrics and clothing with lots of movement.

Have zero expectations:
Embrace what comes, the rain, the laughter, whatever unfolds. Every shoot is unique, and we have no set pattern. It’s all about YOU and capturing your life exactly how it is on the day of your shoot. I can’t give you any guarantees of what we will capture, let’s see what magic happens on the day.

I look forward to capturing these beautiful moments of your newborn baby at your conformable home setting that would mean the world to you.

Thank you!
